9Quebec City, June 7, 2022 - The Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament will be back from February 8 to 19 at the Videotron Center and the Pavillon de la Jeunesse. The organization has decided to go back to 120 teams and to change its offer in terms of categories.

Back to 5 categories

Following the results of the 2022 edition which was exceptionally held in May, the Pee-Wee Tournament team decided to make various changes and took certain decisions on the logistical and organizational level. The number of teams accepted as well as the categories offered were among these important points. It is therefore confirmed, we will return to 120 teams and 5 classes offered. Here are the categories in which teams will be able to apply as of July 1st: Pee-Wee AAA, AA-Elites, AA, BB and Girls.

As a result, the School and Pee-Wee A classes will no longer return next year, while the all-feminine class, presented by our partner JANES, will make its debut with 12 teams.

"When we made the decision to go to 144 teams in 2022, it was a trial. We didn't know what that would mean in terms of additional workload. We quickly realized it was too much. Much more logistics, extra costs and unforeseen events. From that point on, we had to make choices!" explains Patrick Dom, General Manager.

Informed choices

The assessments and our various team discussions have enlightened us. It is no longer a question for us to have a complete class playing at the Pavillon de la Jeunesse only. We want all our teams to have the same experience, to give everyone the same chance to experience the Videotron Centre. We also relied on our raison d'être: an INTERNATIONAL tournament. The School category was therefore the hot spot due to the great lack of teams from outside. Every year, and since the beginning, only 1 or 2 teams outside Quebec join the teams from here, despite many steps, approaches and promotions. It is therefore for this reason that the school division will not be back.

"Already at this time we have about 20 international girls teams that have expressed interest in participating in the tournament. This new feature will certainly add a breath of fresh air to the tournament" says Michel Plante, President.

Registrations will open on July 1st on our online platform, on our website. The deadline for applications is October 15, 2022.
